Abstract
ディジタルスチルカメラやビデオカメラの普及と発展に伴って，撮影した画像内の文字・文書を情報処理に利用したいという要求が高まっている．本稿では，このようなカメラを用いた文字・文書の認識・理解を通して，我々は何を得ることができるのか，また実現には何が問題であり，現在どのような取組みがなされているのかについて解説する．加えて，残された研究課題について触れるとともに，ユーザインタフェースへの適用の視点から筆者らが進めている新しい試みについても紹介する．
