Abstract

画像中の文書や文字列を認識する際，クラスへの識別処理に先立ち，二値化など様々な前処理が画像に施される．その一つに回転（スキュー）補正がある．これは文字行を正確に水平にするための処理であり，これを怠ると文字行の切り出しに失敗し，最悪の場合，全く認識不能となる．文字行の回転角は事前には不明であるため，補正の際には回転角を推定する必要がある．これまでにも様々な方法が提案されているが，いずれも文字行の直進性を仮定している．従って，環境中の文字・文書認識の対象となるであろう，ポスターや看板など短い文字列が自由にレイアウトされたような文書画像には，これら従来法は適さない．本稿では，この文字行直進仮定が不要な回転補正法を紹介する．
